October Meeting – Oak and Port
This month’s SWGGA Meeting will be a combination of two short programs by Dave Elliott, with an opportunity to “put to palate” flavors and descriptions. The first program is tasting the effect of different oaks on the same wine. A 2017 Syrah which was aged in neutral oak was further exposed to cubes of French, American, and Hungarian oaks of different toast levels (Medium, Medium Plus, and Heavy). The members will have an opportunity to taste the differences in flavors that these oaks impart on the wine.
The second part of the program will be devoted to describing different techniques for making Port style wines in the home winery. Examples of the Ports produced by each method will be available for tasting.
Participants are asked to bring 6 glasses for each taster/tasting pair, and their discerning palate.
The meeting will be at Ponderosa Hall at the Nevada County Fairgrounds at 7:00 PM, Thursday, October 17th (and bring a bottle of your favorite to share).
