February Meeting: The Wines Were Saved

Mar 5, 2019 | Meeting Report

Our meeting on February 21st was attended by about 25 members who tasted along with the experts, Mark Foster, winemaker at Nevada City Winery and Jack Starr, winemaker at Sierra Starr Winery, as they critiqued 6 wines brought by Dave Elliott, Diane Houston, David Blitstein, Paul Ver Wey, Jim Garrett and Jack Stillens.

This meeting, which has become a popular annual event, allows the member’s wines to be evaluated, usually before bottling, to determine if there are any faults, or other issues that the winemakers think might be correctable. This year the recommendations ranged from going easier on the oak for a Primitive to hit that Albarino hard with SO2, now! All of the wines were found to be salvagable, and generally well made.

Many thanks to Mark and Jack for their generosity of their time and expertise. Don’t forget to support them too.
