Vineyard Available

I own a 1/3-acre vineyard (200 vines with NID water), just south of Grass Valley proper, off McCourtney in Mustang Valley. There are three varieties of red grapes for wine making: Zinfandel, Barbera and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines are going into their 8th year and are good producers. I don’t have the time to invest in becoming a decent wine maker but it would be great if someone that is such an expert took advantage of the grapes.

Vineyard Help Request

Hello!

We just bought a property near Round Mountain with 1.25 acres of 5 different red varietals. You may know our place, as this property was previously owned by Gary Glaze.

As much as we LOVE wine and would like to learn more about making wine, we do not have the bandwidth to tend to these lovely vines right now. We would love to find someone interested in taking over the vineyard. Please contact me for more details, Amy Taylor; amyreneetaylor@gmail.com or 510-292-9806

Winemaking Nuts and Bolts

There are still a couple of openings for Guy Lauterbach’s three session Winemaking Basics class. The first meeting is scheduled for August 22 at 9:00 am at Guy’s Gray Pine Winery. The 2nd meeting will be on a Sunday in mid-September and the 3rd will be on a Sunday in early October, starting at 9:00 am, exact dates to be determined. (Dates are subject to change based on in what is going on in the vineyard and winery.)

Course Topics:
Session 1 (Pre-harvest): Sanitation, equipment, crop evaluation.
Session 2: Crush, fermentation, press off.
Session 3: Racking, oaking, aging, bottling.

Masks and other protective COVID safeguards will be required. Participants will be determined on a first come, first served basis.

If you would like to sign up for these sessions, please email Tony Clarabut at tsclarabut@gmail.com.

A big thank you to Guy and Gray Pine Winery for providing this opportunity to SWGGA.

New Member Vineyard

Scott and Melissa Melamed recently bought the property off McCourtney Road previously owned by members Randy and Mary Woolwine. They are new to grape growing, but have jumped right into maintaining their 200 vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera and Zinfandel.

Because they are new to this, they would like to know if someone would be willing to get involved with their new adventure, give some advise, and maybe some help. Looking to the future, maybe someone would want to maintain the vineyard in exchange for grapes. Anything is open for discussion.

If you might be interested, or just discuss this, give Scott a call at 805-415-3749 or email: smelamed99@gmail.com
